Marina Downing

About

Marina Downing is a tenacious, fast, strong, and gifted attacking player who drives the ball hard into pockets of space. She is a D1 transfer who played in 28 games in the past two seasons for Eastern Washington University as a scholar shipped player. Marina played on the flank and up top for the Eagles scoring 1 goal and 1 assist in just under 500 minutes played with one start. She is a great take on artist beating players off the dribble with moves and getting around the edge to serve it in or take a shot. One of her best attributes about her as a player is her ability to create scoring chances for her teammates and serve in a great ball.

Prior to her two years at EWU, Marina was a starter for City SC’s Girls Academy, and prior to that she played for the Develop Academy league.  Her team was ranked in the top 10 nationally in the US Soccer Development Academy; they remained consistently ranked as the #1 or #2 in the Southwest Region. Her team played in national playoffs (DA or GA) three times, and Marina was the top scorer for her high school team in spring 2021 and was ranked in Top Drawer regional rankings. She has the knack for putting herself in good spots to be on the receiving end of the ball as well which enables her some nice finishes. She also presses well on defense and has good vision for passing and a strong leg for crosses and shots. She is looking for a school that has a stronger academic profile and has connections to internships and job opportunities. She has a 3.75 college GPA and has made the Deans list while pursuing a degree in Marketing. She is entering the portal May 1st and would love to talk to potential transfer schools at that time.
